Dr. I. Kalatzis received Diploma in Physics from the University of Athens, Greece in 1987 and his Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics from the Medical School of the University of Athens, Greece in 2000. During his Ph.D. thesis he was involved in tomographic image processing in the Nuclear Medicine department of the Hippokrateio General Hospital of Athens, as well in research projects concerning image processing and pattern recognition applications in medicine.

He is Associate Professor in the department of Biomedical Engineering of the University of West Attica, Athens Greece, in the field of Medical Image and Signal Processing and Analysis. He also is or he was adjunct lecturer in post-graduate programs at the Univeristy of West Attica, the University of Athens, the University of Patras and thge Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece.

Dr. Kalatzis has 55 publications in scientific journals with impact factor, 103 publications in international and national conferences, 1 academic book and 2 chapters in scientific books, with over 500 citations excluding all authors (h-index=12). He was coordinator or primer investigator in many funded research projects by the Greek government and/or the European Union and he is the author of the academic book "Algorithmic Programming in MATLAB Environment", I. Sideris Athens 2016.

Dr. Kalatzis's research interests include medical image and signal processing and analysis, with focus in the field of pattern recognition, as a member of the Medical Image and Signal Processing (MEDISP) Laboratory of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of West Attica and in collaboration with the Biosignal Acquisition Laboratory of the same academic department.
